Frequently Asked Questions

Customizing

Q Can I get thermography » Glossary on any card or paper stock?

A Most but not absolutely everything. There are some limitations specifically items that tend to bow in the heating process required to create thermography » Glossary. Other items that, due to trial and error, we’ve decided do not work well when printed in thermography, include lined envelopes or items with self-adhesive tape on them. Products we sell online will show the printing methods available within the order wizard. So if thermography is not an option listed as an available printing method for the item, it cannot be printed on the item.

Q Is there a maximum amount of lines I can have printed?

A No. There is no set amount of lines or words that can be printed on your invitation. Our typesetters do not use templates when typesetting. Each typeset is created from scratch and designed to fit your chosen words on your chosen card. No matter how much text you would like to include, we will typeset it properly as well as pleasing to the eye.

Q What ink color should I use?

A Many companies only offer a short, pre-selected list of one to three ink colors. Paper Affair offers much more flexibility. We allow you to select an ink color from a long list of 28 standard colors. In the Order Wizard, to view the ink colors, select the red question mark icon next to Ink Color. If you need some guidance, we sometimes note within the item description on the order detail page, a couple of ink colors we feel will work best on that item. Always feel free to ask us for a suggestion if you’re stumped. Live Help is the perfect way to contact us for this. And if an ink color you choose does not look good on the invitation, we will alert you to this on your proof and suggest an alternative.

Q What font should I use?

A We’ve found this selection to be a very personal choice. Select a font you gravitate to, one that suits the card you’re printing on and the occasion you’re printing for. While not all shown on this site, we actually have over 1000 fonts in our archives. Please let us know if you’d like some guidance for this selection.

Q Can I choose more than one font?

A This question would fall under two different categories, both with the same answer … yes.

  1. We quite often use 2 different fonts in one typeset. One font is generally used for titles, headings, event names, honorees names, highlighted items. A second font is used for the remaining information, the details, etc.
  2. Another option is to see your proof typeset in 2 different fonts so that you may choose your favorite.

Whether the former or latter is your request, feel free to contact us with your special requests.

Q Can I have 2 ink colors printed on one piece?

A Yes. However, because we use printing presses that require one pass per color, each color printed will incur a full printing fee. It’s quite like printing 2 separate orders. There will be 2 full printing fees charged.

Q Can you help me with my wording?

A Absolutely. Click on the red question mark icon next to Wording in the Order Wizard to see a pop-up of suggested wordings for your invitation or announcement category.

Q Can I have a logo, drawing, motif or monogram printed along with my wording?

A Yes on all counts. There is no additional fee for a motif or monogram from our selection to be added in the same color ink and printing method. There is small scanning/placement fee for a one color, customer supplied logo drawing, motif or monogram printed along with the wording in the same color ink and printing method. If you would like the logo, motif or monogram printed in a different color or printing method, further additional fees will apply. Please inquire for further information.

Q How do I supply my own artwork for printing?

A An order must be placed before artwork can be submitted. Submitted artwork must be camera ready » Glossary. Camera ready artwork can be supplied via postal mail or e-mail.

By postal mail, the artwork must arrive flat, unbent and clean. The artwork itself must be high quality, clean and clear line art … black print on white paper. No grays, shading or half-tones may be submitted. And we recommend that you submit art larger than the size you wish printed. The resulting scan will be much cleaner.
